Virpazar is small — maybe 300 people — and easy to underestimate on a drive-through. Stay for a day and it's the best base you can pick for Skadar Lake. Stay for two and you start recognising faces. Here's how to get the most out of it.
Quick orientation
The village is wedged between two rivers (the Crmnica and the Orahovštica) where they empty into Skadar Lake. The centre is the old Ottoman bridge; the boat piers are just behind it. The old fortress (Besac) is a 15-minute uphill walk.

Where to park
Public parking near the bridge fills by 10:00 in high season. There is a larger lot on the main road side but it's a 10-minute walk. Private reserved parking is a two-minute walk from the pier and worth arranging if you're driving in on a July or August day.
For summer visits, arrange secure parking near the departure point.
Where to eat
Half a dozen konobas cluster along the two river canals. Menus overlap heavily — fresh Skadar carp in sauce with prunes, smoked bleak, fried mixed fish, lamb ispod sača (under the bell). Prices are similar; picking a table on the water beats one on the road.
Names worth remembering: Badanj, Kalajdžić, Pelikan. Book ahead in July / August.
Where to stay
A handful of small guesthouses and private apartments — no big hotels, and that's an asset. The best options are quiet apartments within a 5-minute drive of the village.

May, June and September are the sweet spot. July and August are busy but the village handles it; still, come before 10:00 and after 15:00 to avoid the coach-tour window.
